If you have ever prepared for a "Roadtrip", then you know that it takes a lot of preparation and planning. You have to map out the route you want to take, prepare your vehicle to make sure that it is in top running order and that all safety gear in ready if needed, work out a budget so you don't end up out of money a week before the trip ends, plan for rest stops and meal breaks, make reservation for overnight stays, pack for the journey and then buckle up and enjoy the trip.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is not exactly a "Roadtrip" but it is a spiritual Journey. You are probably more familiar with "Roadtrips" than you are with spiritual Journey's. This spiritual Journey's destination is Confirmation. Let us remember that the Journey is as important as the Destination.
On the day of your Confirmation, you are given the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit
* Wisdom
* Understanding
 * Right Judgment
* Courage
* Knowledge
* Reverence
* Wonder and Awe in God's Presence
You are told to use them for the greater glory of God. Well, how do learn to do that? Think of each of these gifts as the nourishment that you take in along your Journey. The Confirmation Preparation program at OLQA will help you discover, cultivate and implement these gifts as a part of your personal faith formation that will guide you through your daily Journey. Through faith sharing, prayer, retreats, justice and service projects, involvement in the community life of our parish and that of the wider community and the loving support of a sponsor we will help guide your journey to the reorganization and understanding of the presence of the Holy Spirit in yourself and in the people that you meet each day along the road. We, the staff and volunteers of the "GEN 1" Youth Ministry program are honored and excited to be fellow travelers on this Journey with you! So let's get started.
All candidates need to choose a Sponsor to travel the Journey with them. This person should be chosen as soon as the candidate decides to begin their Confirmation Preparation. During orientation every family recieves two binders, one for the candidate and one for the parents. In those binders you will find helpful information to follow when chosing a sponsor and the forms necessary to turn in to the youth ministry office once you have chosen a sponsor. A sponsor is someone who will be available to join you on your Journey both physically by attending Liturgy, Sponsor/Candidate events and service projects with you as well as being there for faith sharing, prayer, and spiritual guidance. Although you may have a wonderful relationship with Aunt Lucy in Washington or your sibling who is away at college, consider choosing someone who is local and available to be with you when you need them. We ask that all candidates chose their sponsor before the first gathering in their Year 1 session.
